These taps and a three day weekend. Not a bad weekend for the hill.

Allgash Curieux - Tripel aged in bourbon barrels
I made a bourbon pecan pie (Victory Pie) and decided I wanted to try the Allagash Curieux with it for a double hit of bourbon flavor.
The beer poured a light golden color with not much of a head. Smelled slightly of bourbon, but still with some breadiness and very lightly of fruit. The bourbon taste didn’t show up until the end and I must say I was impressed. The bourbon flavor wasn’t overpowering, it just simple, there and nice. You could still taste the rest of the beer.
Together, the pie and the beer were a great combination, the bourbon flavors went nicely and the slight alcohol taste in the beer cut through the sweetness of the pie. A great summer treat.

Bull Jagger - Original No. 19
I may have enjoyed the label more than the beer itself. I know, it’s a plain-looking label, but if you look closer you’ll find ALCOLOL By Volume. C’mon, that’s gold!
Original No. 19 is a Baltic Porter by a Maine brewery that plans to do nothing but lagers. I found that 19 offers a mild roast, some chocolate and dark fruit, and a touch of sweet malt. It clocks in at 8% but drinks almost like a session beer. It’s a promising second release from Bull Jagger, and I look forward to future brews. Got a nice box of goodies today with some great extras (the Portsmouth bombers). Brett and I is getting put down for a few years, the other ones will be drank shortly. Especially that Beatification, which I’m surprised wasn’t opened before I even took the pic.

The latest batch of Coolship Resurgam will be released sometime next month and sold only at the brewery. This is a blend of different batches from the coolship and tastes a lot like an old gueuze, with an absolute dry finish and a wonderfully sour complexity.
